# Import from a file

> Bring your existing jewelry stock into Tashvi One from a spreadsheet, PDF, Word document, or photo of a stock list. Review every row before anything is booked in.

Import from a file reads the stock list you already have and turns it into products and tagged pieces. It works with spreadsheets, PDFs, Word documents, and photos of a handwritten or printed list, so you don't have to retype your books.

## Open it

Choose **Import from a file** on **Products**, from the **Add** menu, or from the **Import your stock** card on an empty shop's Overview. Importing needs an owner or manager.

It accepts Excel (`.xlsx`, `.xls`, `.xlsm`), CSV, TSV, text, Word (`.docx`), PDF, and JPG, PNG, or WebP photos. Files can be up to 3 MB, and large photos are shrunk automatically.

## Import your stock

    Tashvi One reads it with AI and lays out what it found as products and pieces. If it's unsure about part of the file, it says so.

  <Step title="Choose how to book it">
    Pick **Opening stock (what I already have)** for pieces you already own, or **A delivery from a supplier (adds a bill to pay)** for a new delivery. For a delivery, add the supplier and bill number.

  <Step title="Choose where it goes">
    Under **Put them in**, pick the location the pieces go to.

  <Step title="Review the rows">
    Check each row's name, code, quantity, weight, cost, and price, and fix anything that was read wrong. Untick the checkbox at the start of any row you don't want.

  <Step title="Import">
    Press **Import**. The button shows what will be booked in, like *Import 3 products · 12 pieces*, and each piece becomes its own tagged piece in stock.

## Good to know

* **Existing products are matched, not duplicated.** A row whose code matches a product you already have is added to that product. The product itself isn't changed.
* **One bad row stops the import.** Nothing is booked in until every row is valid, and the message names the row to fix.
* **Blank costs come in at zero,** unless the row matches a product that has a cost price. Fill in costs before importing, or your stock value will be understated and those pieces will show as pure profit when they sell.
* **Prices in another currency are left out.** If the file's currency differs from your shop's, Tashvi One drops the prices and warns you.
* **Importing the same file twice books it twice.** Check before you import again.

Importing is free, on every plan.
